What an embedded AI engineer is
An embedded AI engineer joins your team for an agreed period. They learn how the work really happens, build automations and AI agents in the tools you already use, train the people who will run them, and write down the rules. They are not a full-time employee, and they are not a consultant who leaves a report and goes.
What the work looks like, week by week
An illustrative shape for the first six weeks. Every engagement is scoped to your priorities, so the timing changes.
- Week 1: learn and map. Meet the people who do the work, map the tools and data, and agree what must stay out of AI tools.
- Week 2: choose and baseline. Pick the first workflow by value, effort and risk, and measure how long it takes today.
- Weeks 3 to 4: build in your systems. Automation or an AI agent in your live tools, with exceptions routed to a named person.
- Week 5: pilot and measure. Real work, compared with the baseline, adjusted with the team.
- Week 6: hand over or extend. Documentation, usage rules and training, then the next workflow if it is worth it.
How it differs from traditional consulting
- Output. Working automations and trained people, not only a strategy document.
- Where the work happens. In your systems and alongside your staff, on site or remotely.
- Ownership. Prompts, workflows, documentation and rules stay with you when the engagement ends.
- Pace. Small, measured pilots, so you can stop or change direction at each step.
How to start, and what it costs
- Free AI Readiness Audit. 15 questions, about 5 minutes. Take the audit.
- AI and Copilot Discovery Day. One day with a consultant, £950 + VAT, fixed. See what is included.
- Embedded engineering. Value based, scoped after the Discovery Day, with a written quote before anything starts.
Where we work
We are based in Cardiff and work with organisations across the UK, on site or remotely. For organisations in Wales, see our Personal Forward Deployed AI Engineer in Wales.
When an embedded engineer is not the right answer
If you need a permanent AI team for years, hiring your own engineers will cost less over time, and we can help you shape the role. If you only need advice, a Discovery Day may be all you need. If you need large-scale model training or research, a specialist data science firm is better placed.
Questions we are often asked
What is an embedded AI engineer?
A specialist who works inside your team and your existing systems for an agreed period, building and piloting automations and AI agents, training your people and handing everything over.
Is a forward deployed engineer the same as an embedded AI engineer?
We use the terms for the same model: an engineer deployed into your organisation to deliver working AI, rather than advising from outside.
How much does an embedded AI engineer cost?
The audit is free and the Discovery Day is £950 + VAT, fixed. Embedded engineering is priced on value and scoped after the Discovery Day, with a written quote before work starts.
Do you work outside Wales?
Yes. We are based in Cardiff and work with organisations across the UK, on site or remotely.
