The guidance that applies
- In England, the Department for Education publishes guidance on generative AI in education.
- In Wales, Welsh Government guidance for schools is published on Hwb.
- Pupil data is personal data under UK GDPR, and children's data needs particular care. See the ICO guidance on AI and data protection.
Lower-risk places to start
- Drafting lesson resources and adapting them for different reading levels, checked by a teacher.
- Summarising policies and drafting routine letters home, with no pupil data in the prompt.
- Supporting staff with administrative tasks inside an approved, contracted tool.
Controls to put in place
- An AI policy for staff and an age-appropriate one for learners.
- A list of approved tools, checked for where data is processed and whether it is used to train models.
- No pupil-identifiable data in any tool without a contract and a data protection impact assessment.
- Training for staff on what AI does well, where it gets things wrong and how to check it.
How to start, and what it costs
- Free AI Readiness Audit. 15 questions, about 5 minutes, including AI governance. Take the audit.
- AI and Copilot Discovery Day. One day with a consultant, £950 + VAT, fixed. For a public body this is where we classify your data, map where each AI tool processes it and agree the rules. See what is included.
- Implementation. Value based, scoped and quoted after the Discovery Day.
When we are not the right fit
We do not supply classroom AI products or tutoring platforms. We help schools, colleges and trusts set the rules, choose tools safely and train staff. Back to sovereign AI for UK organisations.
Questions we are often asked
Can teachers use AI to plan lessons?
Yes, within the school's policy, with no pupil data in the prompt and a teacher checking everything before it is used.
Can pupil data go into an AI tool?
Only into a tool the school has a contract for, after a data protection impact assessment, and in line with the school's data protection policy.
Is there official guidance?
Yes. The Department for Education publishes guidance for England, and Welsh Government guidance is on Hwb.
